Fiesta Time and the reopening of El Cortijuelo
September is a long awaited month in the village of Villanueva del Trabuco. The August fair has been and gone, this means that fiesta will soon be upon us.
if you have never been to Spain before and not attended a fiesta, you are in for a treat.
Every September, usually the second week, the town almost closes down and 5 days of partying begins. There are processions of a religious nature, kids races, bands, Paella competitions, grand parade and lots more.
El Cortijuelo Reopens
At last! The renovations to our favourite restaurant, El Cortijuelo, are complete and the doors opened again on September 1st 2017. El Cortijuelo is actually two large bar / restaurants; know locally as “Fermins” and “Manolo’s”
These are two very typical Andalucian restaurants serving authentic Spanish rural dishes. Famed for his Jamon Asado (Spit roasted ham) and generous free tapas, Fermins is the largest of the two places at El Cortijuelo and he also does B&B.
This is also a great place to watch Premier League football (If Madrid / Barça or Malaga are not playing) and the kids are welcomed by an inflated castle to bounce about on.
Manolo’s does a wicked roast kid goat in garlic and paella. This is a smaller place but still large by any other standards. There is a large and varied menu and the tapas are free.
These two restaurants are a short distance from La Nava and a great way to spend a day. En route to El Cortijuelo you will also pass another great restaurant called “El Cruce“. Known locally as “Eduardo’s” this is another great place to eat.
These three restaurants, like many others, offer you Menu del Dia or “Menu of the day” and for less than ten euro you can have a three course meal with a drink thrown in.
As if that wasn’t enough, turn left out of La Nava and about 1 Km away you are on the doorsteps of eve more places to eat at junction 7 turn off.
One thing about a stay at La Nava, you won’t go hungry.
